A deal offering $1 Mt Ruapehu ski passes, aimed at Australians, sold out in two hours, with 19,047 passes snapped up, around 800 of them by well-connected Kiwis. The offer, a joint promotion between Ruapehu Alpine Lifts and Tourism New Zealand, was put online in the Australian section of American daily deal site livingsocial.com and they had expected a total uptake of 2000 passes, which normally sell for $95 each.
