Contribution Recognised
GISBORNE’s Linda White has been recognised for her tireless voluntary contribution to local badminton. She has won the Badminton New Zealand Administrator of the Year Award.
It is the second time White has won the Badminton New Zealand award for her efforts on behalf of the sport both locally and nationally.
White is the treasurer, public relations officer and Kiwi Sports co-ordinator for Badminton Eastland.
She regularly runs tournaments and is a court official.
“I do a bit of everything really,” she said.
“Like all sports, we are struggling for volunteers.
“I’m passionate about the sport, and I have really enjoyed meeting some wonderful people I wouldn’t normally have met.”
White has been involved in the sport locally for around 30 years, since she and her husband moved to Gisborne in 1980.
“If it wasn’t for my husband Gordon and his support, I wouldn’t have been able to continue with my badminton interests.”
White has pursued an interest in refereeing and in the past two years has refereed at junior nationals. She is also player/manager for the Eastland veterans team and has played for the masters team.
